SoulGen Overview

Launched in 2023, SoulGen is an AI image and video generator that also lets you talk to the character you generated. That order matters. The media is the product: images are realistic, video quality matches the best we have tested, and there are editing tools most companion apps do not offer, including reference to video and video extend. The chat is better than you would expect from a bolt-on, holding a natural conversation and a steady persona, and voice calls respond quickly. The companion builder focuses on visuals and lacks personality and relationship settings. There is no in-chat tuning or shared library of user-created chat characters. The single plan is cheap, the free tier is real, and billing is discreet. In our test, direct crypto payment worked, while card payment was routed through G2A or a card via crypto option.

What is SoulGen?

SoulGen is an AI generation platform covering realistic and anime images, video generation, chat, and voice calls, with an open NSFW mode. There is no native app and no group chat.

The homepage does not tell you much. It presents itself as an AI image and video generator first, and the ability to talk to your generated character is something you find rather than something you are shown. There is no search, the site feels slightly dated, and chat lives behind a separate Soul Chat entry in the menu.

The honest way to describe it: chat is secondary here. The focus is generating images, characters, and video, most likely on top of larger third party models.

Image Generation

Images score 4/5. Realistic output is good. It is softer and less detailed than the strongest dedicated image generators we tested.

Image generation is a core feature, so the difference is visible enough to keep the score at 4/5.

Video Generation

Video scores 5/5 and is SoulGen's strongest feature. Quality is at least on par with the best video we have tested elsewhere. SoulGen does not say which model powers it, and the output resembles Kling, though we cannot confirm that.

The tooling goes beyond most companion apps: video editing, reference to video, and video extend are all here. There is no in-chat video, and we did not find a shared library of user-created chat characters or videos.

Character Builder

The builder scores 1/5 as a companion builder. It provides a character type, prompt, reference image, visual style, aspect ratio, and image count. It does not provide personality, backstory, relationship, or greeting controls.

Chat Quality

Chat scores 4/5, which surprised us given how secondary it is to the product. It holds the conversation and keeps it natural. It still sits behind the strongest AI girlfriend apps we have tested, and it is far better than the setup suggests.

In-Chat Tuning

Tuning scores 1/5 because it does not exist. There are no settings to adjust tone, behaviour, or anything else during a conversation.

Memory Test

Memory scores 4/5 and works well. Free users keep chat memories for 30 days, as the app notes at the top of every chat, and the paid plan extends that. Past 100 days, even on the paid plan, it starts to run into problems.

Character Consistency and What Model It Runs On

Consistency scores 4/5. In normal use the character holds its persona well.

The direct model test is where it slipped. Asked to stop the roleplay and say what model it was, the character first invented a name, Model AI-1048, designed for adult roleplay. Pushed further with specific model families, it confirmed it belongs to the GLM family, wrapping the answer in a pun about "Genuine Love Models".

That makes SoulGen the second app in our testing, after OurDream, to name the model underneath. It stayed playful while doing it, but it still gave the game away.

NSFW

Chat and images both go as far as nudity without going all the way. It is open without being extreme.

Voice and Calls

Voice scores 4/5 and works well. Calls respond fast and she speaks quickly, which keeps the conversation moving. The one limitation is that you cannot change the voice.

Pricing and Plans

There is one plan. Pro costs $12.99 for a single month, listed with no recurring fees, or $90.99 for twelve months, which works out to $7.58 per month and is shown as 42% off a list price of $155.88.

The checkout labels the one-month option as having no recurring fees. SoulGen's subscription terms say the monthly membership renews automatically, so check the billing terms shown before paying.

Pro unlocks all features, gives you 100 credits a month (1,200 across the year), removes blur, and adds priority queue and multitasking. It is cheap for what it does. The "exclusive discount only today" banner at the top is standard pricing presented as urgency, so there is no reason to rush.

Free Tier

You get 10 credits a day. That is enough to judge the model before paying, which puts SoulGen on the honest side of the free tiers we have tested.

Payments and Billing

Billing is discreet. Getting to that point is the problem.

The checkout lists a local wallet, G2A, direct crypto, pay with crypto, and pay with card via crypto. In our test, direct crypto payment completed successfully. We found no normal direct card checkout.

The card route runs through G2A. You buy a SoulGen gift card on G2A using your card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, receive a code, and redeem it back on SoulGen. SoulGen publishes a seven step tutorial for the process.

This adds considerable friction to a $12.99 purchase. The indirect payment routes keep SoulGen from appearing as the direct card merchant.

SoulGen's privacy policy says private creations are deleted from its servers after seven days. Its terms of service say generated content is not used for model training.

Who Should Use SoulGen

You'll enjoy SoulGen if you:

• Want video editing, reference to video, and video extend
• Want a cheap single plan with no tiers to compare
• Want a real free tier to test with
• Are comfortable paying with crypto or through a gift card
• Want a character you can talk to on top of the media, as a bonus

You'll get frustrated if you:

• Want to design your character in detail
• Want to adjust the conversation mid-chat
• Want a shared library of user-created chat characters
• Want to pay directly by card

Verdict: Is SoulGen Worth It?

SoulGen is a strong media generator with a surprisingly capable chat attached to it. Video matches the best we have tested, the editing tools go further than most companion apps, images are realistic, and the chat, memory, consistency, and calls are all better than a secondary feature has any right to be. At $7.58 a month on the yearly plan, it is cheap.

As an AI girlfriend app, it is thin. The builder lacks personality and relationship settings, there is no in-chat tuning, and we found no shared library of user-created chat characters. The product treats the relationship as something you do with your generated image rather than the point of the experience. Paying is its own hurdle. Direct crypto worked in our test, while card payment was routed through G2A or a card via crypto option. If you came for images and video and like the idea of talking to what you create, SoulGen is good value. If you came for a companion, the apps built around one will serve you better.
