XChar Overview

Launched in 2024, XChar has a thorough builder, fast chat, solid images and HD video. Paid plans publish memory limits from 6K to 18K tokens. The main problems are a three-message trial, unclear Premium labelling, a countdown promoting the standard yearly price, and card payments being paused during our test.

What is XChar?

XChar is an AI companion platform covering realistic and anime characters, image and video generation, and audio messages. It covers realistic, anime, MILF, and romantic styles with an open NSFW mode. There is no native app on either store, only a web app you can add to your home screen.

The interface works. Search does its job, scenarios exist, and the site is quick. The promotional banner across the top is loud enough to be distracting. The bigger gap is browsing: there are no categories to explore, so unless you already know what you are searching for, there is no way to work through the roster by type or interest.

Installing it on a phone works exactly as you would expect from a web app. It runs fullscreen and behaves the same as the desktop version, with nothing missing.

• The free tier is 3 messages, and the site still calls it a free tier
• Card payments were paused during testing, leaving crypto as the only option
• The character builder marks only the Custom path as Premium, then demands Premium at the end of the Standard path too
• A countdown timer pushes a discount that is just the standard yearly price
• No voice calls, only audio messages
• No in-chat video
• In-chat tuning is thin, most settings live in the character build instead
• No category browsing, so the roster is hard to explore
• The community and leaderboard cover characters only, not scenarios
• Memory is capped by plan tier, so the cheapest plan forgets soonest
• Images are good without being photorealistic

Characters and Scenarios

There is no way to search by category, and opening a chat gives you a couple of scenarios or a default chat. The community side works differently from most rivals here: people build characters rather than scenarios. They define how she behaves, what she likes and dislikes, and you pick the scenario yourself afterwards.

So the community and the leaderboard do exist, they just cover characters and not scenarios. Compared with apps where you get a personality and a story arc together, that is a step down.

Character Builder

There are two paths, Standard and Custom, and both are good. You set the voice, the appearance, the behaviour, what she likes, fetishes, hobbies, and what she is to you.

Only the Custom path carries a Premium badge, which makes Standard look free. Standard also requires Premium, but the requirement appears after you finish the setup.

The countdown promoted the same 50% yearly price shown on the pricing page.

Chat Quality

Chat scores 4/5. Response speed is good, it stays on topic, and it does not write your side of the conversation for you. Naturalness is where it falls short of the best: it is a strong experience, and you can still tell you are talking to an AI.

In-Chat Tuning

Tuning scores 3/5. You can change context length, advanced model settings, message suggestions, voice input, automatic image messages, and the number of images per request. Most personality controls remain in the character builder.

The one thing it does better than most is memory editing, which other apps have but bury. Here it is easy to find and clearly presented.

Memory Test

Memory scores 4/5. The planted fact survived at 10 messages and again at 50, then dropped beyond that.

Paid plans publish their memory limits. Premium gives you 6K tokens, Deluxe 12K, and Ultra 18K. The cheapest plan therefore has the smallest context window.

Character Consistency and What Model It Runs On

Consistency scores 3/5, around average for the category. It holds the thread of whatever you are writing, similar to most rivals.

The direct model question broke it. Asked what it runs on, it dropped out of character rather than handling the question in role.

NSFW and Intimate Content

Nudity is completely open with no restrictions we ran into.

Image Generation

Images score 4/5. Prompt adherence is good, which matters more than it sounds, and the output is clean. What holds it back is realism: the results are good without reaching the photorealistic quality of the image-first apps.

Video Generation

Video scores 4/5. There is no in-chat video, so generation happens separately, and HD is available. You can tell the output is AI, and it is still a solid result.

Voice

We found audio messages and voice input, but no working live-call feature.

Pricing and Plans

Three tiers, billed monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Monthly runs $14.95 for Premium, $29.95 for Deluxe, and $49.95 for Ultra.

Quarterly saves 20% and yearly saves 50%, taking the three tiers down to $7.45, $14.95, and $24.95 per month, billed as $89.40, $179.40, and $299.40 per year.

All three plans include unlimited messages, HD images, HD videos, and generating multiple images at once. What separates them is credits (8,000, 18,000, and 36,000 per month) and memory (6K, 12K, and 18K tokens). Ultra adds better language models and priority performance.

At $7.45 a month on the yearly plan, Premium is genuinely cheap for what you get. Just be aware you are buying the weakest memory tier.

Free Tier

The free tier effectively does not exist. You get 3 messages. Presenting that as a free tier is a stretch that costs the app credibility, because three messages is not enough to judge anything. If trying an app properly before paying matters to you, XChar rules itself out.

Payments

At the time of testing, card payments were not working. The checkout returned an error saying card purchases were temporarily paused and instructing us to choose crypto, so crypto was the only way to complete a purchase.

Paused card processing is usually a temporary state, and it may well be resolved by the time you read this. It still matters for two reasons: crypto-only checkout locks out anyone unwilling to use it, and payment processing trouble in this category is worth noticing rather than glossing over.

Privacy and Trust

XChar's privacy policy says conversations are not used for training. Its newer terms say prompts, conversations, and generated content may be used to train and improve its models. That contradiction, combined with the three-message trial and failed card checkout, lowers our trust score to 2/5.

You'll enjoy XChar if you:

• Want fast chat that stays on topic
• Want accurate prompt adherence on images
• Want HD video generation
• Are comfortable paying with crypto
• Want a cheap yearly plan and do not mind the lowest memory tier

Verdict: Is XChar Worth It?

XChar has a thorough builder, fast chat, memory that held through 50 messages, and solid image and video generation. The three-message trial, unclear Premium labelling, conflicting privacy disclosures, and failed card checkout weaken trust. The yearly Premium plan costs $7.45 per month when billed annually. It is good value if you are comfortable paying with crypto and committing without a useful trial.
